Bhopal, February 16: The budget session of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly commenced on Monday with a speech from Governor Mangubhai Patel. During this session, the Congress party created significant disruption, leading to the proceedings being adjourned until Tuesday.
The session began with Governor Patel discussing ongoing programs and the changing landscape in the country and the state. He highlighted the positive changes these initiatives have brought to people’s lives.
However, the Congress party raised concerns, claiming that the Governor’s address omitted the Nal Jal Yojana and failed to mention the deaths caused by contaminated water in Bhagirathpura, Indore. Opposition leader Umang Singhar expressed his outrage over these omissions.
Assembly Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar repeatedly stated that the opposition could voice their concerns during the discussion on the Governor’s speech. Despite this, the uproar continued, and the Governor proceeded with his address. Following the completion of the speech and the Governor’s departure, Congress initiated further protests, resulting in the adjournment of the house until Tuesday.
Prior to the Governor’s arrival at the Assembly, he was welcomed by Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, Opposition Leader Umang Singhar, and others. The ninth session (budget session) of the state’s sixteenth assembly began on Monday and will continue until March 6, 2026. Since the notification of the session was issued, the Assembly Secretariat has received 1,750 starred questions and 1,728 unstarred questions, totaling 3,478 inquiries. Additionally, there have been 236 notices for attention, 10 suspension motions, 41 non-official resolutions, and 83 zero-hour notices.
