Jammu, May 6: A prayer ceremony was held at the Vedic Temple in Jammu to commemorate the anniversary of Operation Sindoor. This operation was launched by the Indian government in response to a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, 2025, which resulted in the tragic deaths of 26 tourists.
The operation took place on the night of May 6-7, 2025, when Indian forces crossed into Pakistan to target terrorist hideouts. During the ceremony, young participants held photographs of prominent leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Colonel Sofia Qureshi, and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh.
Ayush, a participant at the temple, stated, “The terrorists attacked innocent people in Pahalgam. In response, the Indian Army avenged this attack through Operation Sindoor. Today, we recited mantras for the peace of the souls of those who lost their lives.”
The head of the prayer group added, “On April 22, Pakistani terrorists killed innocent people in Pahalgam. We recited Vedic mantras today for the peace of their souls.”
The response by India following the brutal attack on April 22, 2025, is viewed as a significant example in modern military history. Operation Sindoor not only inflicted severe damage on the terrorist infrastructure but also showcased India’s military capability, strategic thinking, and political will.
A defining feature of this operation was its precision and limited duration. Within just four days, the Indian Army achieved all its primary objectives and subsequently accepted a ceasefire through established military channels. While many global conflicts drag on for years, India demonstrated a controlled and purposeful military action.
During Operation Sindoor, India targeted nine major terrorist bases located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK). These bases were being used as launch pads for groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and Hizbul Mujahideen. The operations extended to areas such as Sialkot and Bahawalpur, clearly indicating that India’s reach was no longer limited to border regions. Over 100 terrorists were killed during this operation, including several top commanders.
While India focused on targeting terrorist and military structures, it also prioritized the safety of civilians. In contrast, Pakistan attempted to target both civilian and military installations, but India’s advanced defense systems thwarted these attacks.
The role of the Indian Air Force was crucial during this operation. Utilizing Rafale jets, SCALP missiles, and Hammer bombs, the Air Force completed its mission in just 23 minutes. Jamming Pakistan’s air defense systems during these strikes demonstrated both technical and strategic superiority.
Operation Sindoor also strengthened the Indian Army’s jointness, showcasing coordination among the three armed forces. While the Navy maintained maritime pressure, the Army and Air Force executed their operations in a synchronized manner. Additionally, the role of indigenous defense production and technology was prominently highlighted, with platforms like BrahMos, Akash, Tejas, and anti-drone systems proving effective during the operation.
