Bhopal, 20 November (Daily Kiran): A strong cold wave has hit Madhya Pradesh due to continuous snowfall in the northern hill regions, leading to severe winter conditions across half of the state. Night temperatures are falling sharply, breaking records in several cities.

Bhopal has recorded its coldest November in 84 years, while Indore is witnessing the lowest temperatures in the last 25 years. In the past 24 hours, Shajapur remained the coldest city in the state with a minimum temperature of 6.4°C. Night temperatures in 15 cities, including Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur and Ujjain, dropped below 10°C.
A cold wave alert has been issued for Thursday in Bhopal, Indore and four other districts. The India Meteorological Department has predicted that the cold conditions will continue throughout November. A cold wave alert will remain in place for the next two days, after which slight relief is expected.
According to the Bhopal Meteorological Centre, a cyclonic circulation is present over the southwest Bay of Bengal, and a low-pressure area is likely to form over the southeast Bay of Bengal around November 22. It may intensify further within the next two days. In the past decade, November has shown a pattern of cold weather accompanied by rainfall, and similar conditions are being observed this year.
Senior meteorologist V.S. Yadav said minimum temperatures may gradually rise over the next two to three days, bringing relief from the severe cold. Weather expert Ajay Shukla said the wind direction has shifted to northeast and east, but wind speed remains low, causing little change. However, moisture in the atmosphere is increasing, and night temperatures in most cities may climb above 10°C after two days.
Districts under cold wave alert today
Bhopal, Indore, Dewas, Sehore, Shajapur and Rajgarh have been put on alert for cold wave conditions. Earlier, cold wave conditions were reported in Bhopal, Rajgarh, Indore, Shajapur, Sehore, Khandwa, Khargone, Shahdol and Jabalpur. Shajapur also recorded a cold day condition.
