Varanasi, July 29: Preparations for the Sawan month and Kanwar Yatra at Kashi Vishwanath Temple are now complete. The Chief Executive Officer of Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Vishvabhushan Mishra, has projected that around one crore devotees are expected to visit during this period.
In an interview, Mishra stated, “Special arrangements have been made for devotees at Shri Kashi Vishwanath Dham during the month of Sawan. We have implemented measures to ensure the safety and convenience of the devotees, making their visit smoother. According to our Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), we have arranged zig-zag queue systems, shaded areas, and provisions for glucose and water, as well as shelter from rain.”
Mishra further explained that flower showers will be held for devotees on the first Monday of Sawan and each subsequent Monday. To ensure safety, all types of requests and protocols for darshan and entry at Kashi Dwar are currently restricted. This decision has been made in light of expected crowds. Operations at Kashi Dwar will resume if the crowd size decreases.
The CEO also mentioned that devotees can participate in live darshan through all of Kashi Vishwanath’s social media handles. In previous years, approximately 1.65 to 1.70 crore devotees have visited for darshan and worship. This year, an estimated 80 lakh to one crore devotees are anticipated. He emphasized that the use of polythene is completely banned in Kashi Dham, and local residents are adhering to this rule. Therefore, incoming devotees are advised not to bring Kanwar water in plastic containers.
Meanwhile, on the auspicious occasion of Guru Purnima, a large number of devotees flocked to the Ganga ghats in Varanasi early in the morning to take a holy dip. After bathing in the Ganga, they performed puja, chanted mantras, and conducted religious rituals. To ensure safety, water police and NDRF teams were stationed at the ghats.
