Lucknow, August 23: On the 91st sacrifice day of freedom fighter Martyr Gulab Singh Lodhi, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath paid homage by placing flowers at his statue in Jhande Wala Park, Aminabad on Sunday.
During the event, CM Yogi remarked that on August 23, 1935, at the young age of 32, the great son of Mother India, Martyr Gulab Singh Lodhi, hoisted the Indian flag in this very park, challenging British rule. At that time, the flag symbolized freedom. The cowardly British government responded to his bravery with bullets, leading to his martyrdom for the country’s independence.
The Chief Minister emphasized that while Gulab Singh Lodhi sacrificed his life, he left behind a golden chapter of freedom for future generations. Just 12 years after his sacrifice, the country gained independence from British rule. CM Yogi expressed his reverence for the martyr on behalf of the state government and the people of Uttar Pradesh. Gulab Singh Lodhi was born in 1903 into a humble farming family in Unnao. From a young age, he was driven by a passion for the country’s freedom. He actively participated in the freedom movement and dedicated his life to the cause in Lucknow.
To keep the memory of Martyr Gulab Singh Lodhi alive, the state government has named a park, a health center, and a police training college in Unnao after him as a tribute. The Uttar Pradesh government is committed to preserving the memories of all martyrs. The stadium in Aligarh is named after the brave warrior Avantibai Lodhi, who sacrificed herself during the First War of Independence in 1857, while a new battalion of the PAC in Badaun has also been named in her honor. In Lucknow, the women’s battalion of the PAC is named after the brave Uda Devi Pasi, and the newly established women’s battalion in Gorakhpur is named after Jhalkari Bai Kori. Additionally, a new medical college in Auraiya is named after Lokmata Ahilyabai Holkar. All these figures dedicated their lives for India’s freedom and honor.
The Chief Minister stated that revolutionaries like Martyr Gulab Singh Lodhi sacrificed everything to uphold the dignity and pride of the nation. It is the current generation’s responsibility to keep their memories alive. He assured that the state government will continue to advance the memorial construction program to preserve the memories of freedom fighters and martyrs.
CM Yogi also mentioned that the state government recently approved around ₹500 crores to honor social justice advocates and great personalities who dedicated their lives to the nation. This fund will be used for constructing shelters for statues of figures like Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Guru Ravidas, and Maharishi Valmiki, as well as for the renovation and protection of parks. He affirmed that this respect and reverence for great personalities will continue to grow.
