Beijing, March 8: China’s Minister of Culture and Tourism, Sun Yeli, announced on March 7 during a press conference at the National People’s Congress in Beijing that the number of tourists visiting China exceeded 150 million in 2025. This marks an increase of over 17% compared to the previous year. The total spending by these travelers surpassed $130 billion. More than 30 million foreign visitors took advantage of the visa-free policy to enter China.
Minister Sun Yeli highlighted that China is rapidly advancing the simplification of its inbound payment system. Last year alone, foreign travelers spent nearly 80 billion yuan through mobile payments.
He further noted that the shopping preferences of incoming tourists are continuously expanding. Their interests now extend beyond traditional souvenirs to include drones, VR glasses, creative cultural products, and other unique Chinese items. Tourists are enjoying experiences such as traveling on bullet trains, watching drone performances, savoring hotpot, and wearing traditional Chinese attire.
