
Beijing, March 5: During the fourth plenary session of the 14th National People’s Congress on March 5, an interview program titled “Minister’s Corridor” was held.
On this occasion, China’s Minister of Science and Technology, Wang Zhigang, responded to questions from reporters from China Media Group (CMG). He revealed that last year, a total of 3.92 trillion yuan was invested in research and development (R&D) across society in China, accounting for 2.8% of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
He noted that approximately 280 billion yuan was allocated specifically for fundamental research, which represents 7.08% of the total R&D investment. This marks the first time that the proportion of investment in fundamental research has exceeded 7%, setting a new historical record in this field.
Wang further stated that progress in science and technology in China is accelerating rapidly. The country has now reached the 10th position in the global innovation index. China is also playing a leading role in the development of open-source large models. Additionally, significant advancements have been made in chip research, and there has been notable progress in the development of innovative medicines. Last year, a total of 76 innovative drugs were approved in China. According to him, science and technology are not only empowering various industries and businesses but also playing a crucial role in improving the living standards of ordinary people.
