Chinas Gold Consumption Sees Year-on-Year Growth in Q1 2026

Beijing, May 9: According to the China Gold Association, gold production in China for the first quarter of 2026 reached 81.065 tons, marking a 7.08% decrease compared to the same period last year. However, gold consumption rose to 303.292 tons, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 4.41%.

In terms of production, domestic raw material gold output stood at 81.065 tons, down 7.08% from the previous year. Conversely, gold production from imported raw materials was 55.165 tons, which is a 2.94% increase compared to the same period last year.

Regarding consumption, China’s gold usage in the first quarter of 2026 was 303.292 tons, up 4.41% year-on-year. This included gold jewelry consumption of 84.62 tons, which is a significant 37.10% decrease from the previous year. In contrast, the consumption of gold bars and coins surged to 202.062 tons, a 46.40% increase compared to last year. Additionally, industrial and other uses of gold accounted for 16.61 tons, down 7.43% from the same period last year.
