Chinas Electricity Consumption Surges by 6.9% in May

Beijing, June 19: According to the National Energy Administration of China, the total electricity consumption in May reached 867.1 billion kilowatt-hours, marking a year-on-year increase of 6.9%.

Electricity usage in the primary industry was 124 billion kilowatt-hours, reflecting a 5% rise compared to the previous year. In the secondary industry, electricity consumption was 575.3 billion kilowatt-hours, up by 6.2%. Notably, the high-tech equipment manufacturing sector saw a significant increase, consuming 109.1 billion kilowatt-hours, which is 12.2% higher than last year. The tertiary industry consumed 170.4 billion kilowatt-hours, representing a 9.7% increase.

Interestingly, electricity usage for charging services and internet data services surged by 59.9% and 45.4%, respectively. From January to May, the overall electricity consumption was 5.7% higher than the same period last year.
