CRPF Achieves Remarkable Milestone with Zero Operational Deaths in a Year

The CRPF marks a historic year without operational deaths, a milestone praised by Prime Minister Modi amidst rising suicide concerns.

New Delhi, November 3 (Daily Kiran) : The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has set a new record by not recording any operational deaths over the past year. This achievement, which has not been seen in 47 years, has drawn praise from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In a post on the social media platform X, Modi remarked, “A zero that says so much,” highlighting the CRPF’s accomplishment of maintaining zero operational fatalities in the last year.

CRPF Director General G.P. Singh congratulated the force’s personnel on this significant milestone, noting that the last operational death occurred on October 30, 2025. He shared this collective achievement on X, stating, “This is a major accomplishment in CRPF’s history. The force has successfully gone 12 consecutive months without any operational deaths. The last record of this nature was noted during a period that ended in January 1979.”

However, this achievement comes at a time when the CRPF faces challenges related to increasing suicide rates among its personnel. It’s important to note that suicides are not classified as operational deaths.

Recently, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) took cognizance of a media report revealing that 19 CRPF personnel had committed suicide between January and May 2026. The report cited CRPF data indicating that 59 personnel died by suicide in 2025, marking the highest number in the past five years.

In August, the NHRC commented that if the media report’s information is accurate, it raises serious questions about the right to life for personnel in the country’s largest central armed police force. Consequently, the commission issued notices to the Home Secretary and the CRPF Director General, requesting a detailed report on the matter.

According to a media report published on August 11, a total of 281 CRPF personnel have taken their own lives over the last five years, with approximately 216 of them on duty at the time. The report detailed the annual suicide figures: 57 in 2021, 43 in 2022, 57 in 2023, 46 in 2024, and 59 in 2025.
