PM Modi expresses gratitude for the stupa dedicated by Bhutans King in Gelefu Mindfulness City, symbolizing shared heritage.

New Delhi, November 3 (Daily Kiran) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep gratitude on November 3 for a stupa dedicated to him by King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck of Bhutan. The stupa, located in Gelefu Mindfulness City, serves as a symbol of the enduring friendship between the two nations.
In a message on Facebook, Modi stated, “I am profoundly touched and honored by the warmth and generosity of the King of Bhutan and its people. I accept this honor on behalf of the people of India with heartfelt gratitude. The ‘Jangchup Chorten’ (stupa) will remain a lasting symbol of our shared spiritual and cultural heritage and the special relationship between our peoples.”
The stupa was dedicated following the completion of 108 stupas in Gelefu Mindfulness City. The dedication ceremony featured a plaque unveiling by King Wangchuck and India’s Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, for the 76th stupa.
King Wangchuck remarked, “This special dedication, made on November 1, 2026, signifies our deep appreciation for Prime Minister Modi’s unwavering commitment and India’s strong support in realizing the vision of Gelefu Mindfulness City.” Rijiju also expressed his heartfelt thanks to the King for this honor and reiterated India’s support for the project.
To facilitate the event, India approved a temporary immigration facility in Hatisar, Assam, to ease travel for citizens from other countries. Earlier in September, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar reaffirmed India’s support for King Wangchuck’s vision during his visit to Bhutan.
India has also committed to establishing a permanent immigration checkpoint in Hatisar, aiming to simplify access for investors and tourists to Gelefu. This initiative is viewed as another significant example of the deep and trusted ties between India and Bhutan.
