Beijing, August 7: The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has recently released a revised international standard titled “Ferrous Metals – Heat Treatment – Vocabulary,” led by China.
This standard was organized and spearheaded by Chinese experts, with participation from specialists in Germany, Japan, Finland, France, Italy, and other countries. It marks the first international standard revision in the fundamental area of heat treatment of ferrous metals under China’s leadership.
The standard defines nearly 300 terms related to the heat treatment of ferrous metals, such as steel and cast iron. It serves as a fundamental and universal standard for technical exchanges, product testing, and commercial recognition across industries like steel, automotive, aerospace, energy equipment, and construction machinery.
The revision reorganizes the vocabulary system for heat treatment, categorizing all professional terms into nine major categories.
Notably, by establishing a globally integrated, multilingual, and mutually recognized vocabulary system, this standard aims to eliminate industrial technical barriers, reduce transaction costs, and ensure product quality across countries. This will significantly support global cooperation, technological innovation, and trade facilitation in the ferrous metal heat treatment industry.
