Mumbai, September 14 (Daily Kiran) : Chetan Hansraj, a prominent figure in television, began his career portraying young Balram in B.R. Chopra’s iconic “Mahabharat.” He has successfully navigated the transition from small screen to film. Recently, his friend and fellow actor Rohit Roy labeled television as a “dustbin medium,” suggesting that TV actors are inferior to film stars. Hansraj strongly disagrees with this assessment.
In an interview, Hansraj responded to Roy’s comments, stating, “Rohit is a good friend, but I’m not sure where this idea comes from. Television is not a dustbin medium. However, I do acknowledge that there has been a stagnation in creativity. Many shows still feature similar storylines, resulting in a decline in the creative graph of television.”
He attributed this stagnation to producers and TV channels, urging them to experiment with new content. “Viewers are ready for fresh stories, but they aren’t being offered the right content. Calling TV a ‘dustbin’ is unfair, as millions still enjoy watching shows on the small screen,” he added.
Hansraj also took issue with Roy’s claim that TV actors lack class. “I don’t know where that notion comes from. Every profession has its share of diverse personalities. Some actors may act strangely to gain popularity, but I haven’t consistently experienced that. Many TV actors present themselves with dignity. I, myself, have always maintained my integrity as a TV actor.”
He further asserted that TV actors often outperform their film counterparts. “If given the same lines, a TV actor can deliver them more effectively. They have to convey their characters to the audience in a short time, which enhances their acting skills,” he explained.
Hansraj emphasized that he does not favor one side over the other. “Having worked across different mediums, my experience tells me that TV actors should not be considered inferior to film actors. The larger budgets in films often lead to more PR and promotion, which can skew public perception of popularity.”
On the work front, Chetan Hansraj is set to appear in the highly anticipated film “Ramayan,” directed by Nitesh Tiwari, alongside stars like Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, and Yash.
