Dehradun, May 10: The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for May 12-13, predicting rain and adverse weather conditions in various parts of the state, particularly in mountainous regions.
In response, Garhwal Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey has urged pilgrims and tourists participating in the Char Dham Yatra to stay informed about the latest weather updates and to plan their journeys with utmost caution.
The Commissioner advised travelers to exercise extra vigilance when scheduling their trips on May 12 and 13, considering the sensitive weather conditions. If possible, it would be more convenient to travel once the weather stabilizes. He also emphasized the importance of following guidelines issued by local authorities and administration to ensure a safe and pleasant journey.
He reassured that the state government is fully committed to making the Char Dham Yatra smooth, safe, and organized. All relevant departments have been instructed to ensure necessary preparations and arrangements. He expressed confidence that with the cooperation and vigilance of the pilgrims, the Char Dham Yatra would be completed successfully and without any disruptions.
Recently, a significant step was taken to enhance the national disaster early warning system. On Saturday, the National Disaster Management Authority and C-DOT successfully tested an alert system through cell broadcasting across the country, including Uttarakhand.
Uttarakhand has been actively advocating for the swift implementation of this modern technology with the central government and relevant agencies. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed gratitude to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, and officials from the National Disaster Management Authority for their support.
With this successful test, the cell broadcast technology has been officially launched in the state, enabling rapid and targeted warning messages to reach the public during disasters. This technology will allow alerts to be sent simultaneously to mobile users located in specific geographical areas within Uttarakhand.
