Chandrababu Naidu Supports PMs Call to Preserve Foreign Currency Reserves

Amaravati, May 11: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has strongly endorsed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to the nation to safeguard its foreign currency reserves. He urged everyone to adopt this initiative as a mission.

Speaking at the CII Annual Business Summit held in New Delhi, he emphasized that the current geopolitical situation reminds the country of the need to focus on self-reliance and resource conservation.

According to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), Naidu referenced the national mission mentioned by PM Modi in Hyderabad, highlighting several critical measures suggested to tackle emerging global challenges.

Reiterating the Prime Minister’s appeal, he noted that Modi has called for postponing gold purchases, promoting energy conservation, encouraging the use of public transport, adopting a work-from-home culture, reducing fertilizer consumption, and shifting towards natural farming.

Naidu stressed that these measures are essential given the current global landscape, which is plagued by fuel and energy crises stemming from international conflicts. He pointed out that even countries not directly involved in wars are grappling with the repercussions. In this context, he mentioned that the work-from-home model has become a practical solution, as technology now enables people to work efficiently from anywhere.

Advocating for greater self-reliance in agriculture through reduced fertilizer use and the promotion of natural farming, the Chief Minister stated that this approach would benefit both foreign currency reserves and public health.

Addressing the industrialists present at the summit, particularly business leaders, Naidu urged them to view these reforms and conservation measures not merely as the Prime Minister’s responsibility but as a national mission.

He expressed confidence that every crisis creates new opportunities and emphasized that India will emerge stronger from the current global challenges, becoming ‘invincible’ on the world stage.

Recalling his tenure as Chief Minister in the late 1990s, Naidu mentioned the reforms he implemented in the power sector between 1998 and 1999, which yielded significant results in electricity production and supply. However, he also noted that these reforms were politically costly and contributed to his defeat in the 2004 elections, as the public did not fully embrace these changes at the time.
