Chain Snatching Suspect Injured in Police Encounter in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, June 16: A notorious chain snatching suspect was injured early Tuesday in a police encounter in Jamshedpur. The individual had snatched a sub-inspector’s service pistol and opened fire on the police team, prompting a defensive response from the officers. The injured suspect has been arrested and is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.

According to police reports, the suspect has been identified as Harpal Singh, also known as Gabru. He was apprehended on Monday evening after snatching a gold chain from a woman in the Telco police jurisdiction. Another accomplice has also been taken into custody in connection with this incident.

During interrogation, Harpal Singh confessed to hiding the stolen jewelry and other items in the Longa Maidan area of the Sidgora police jurisdiction. Based on this information, a special police team from the Telco station took him to the location for recovery around 2:30 AM on Tuesday.

Upon arrival at the recovery site, Harpal suddenly attacked a sub-inspector, seizing his service pistol, and attempted to flee under the cover of darkness. As the police team pursued him, he fired two to three rounds at the officers.

The police repeatedly warned him to stop and surrender, but he continued to fire. In self-defense and to subdue the suspect, the police returned fire. A bullet struck Harpal in the leg, causing him to fall to the ground.

The police quickly apprehended him again at the scene. He was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, where doctors reported that his condition is stable. Officers recovered the sub-inspector’s stolen service pistol and shell casings from the suspect.

Police officials noted that Harpal Singh has a prior criminal history, and they are currently reviewing records of other cases against him.
