New Delhi, March 8: The Central Railway’s Railway Protection Force (RPF) has successfully seized 43 kilograms of narcotics in two separate operations this month in Nagpur and Kalaburagi. The total estimated value of the drugs is approximately ₹12.82 lakh. Railway officials stated that these operations have uncovered a drug trafficking network operating through train routes.
In a press release, Dr. Swapnil Neela explained that the actions were part of a joint operation between the RPF and the Government Railway Police (GRP). He noted that both teams coordinated effectively during surveillance and investigations, leading to this significant success.
According to the press release, the RPF dismantled a smuggling network and seized 43 kilograms of drugs in two distinct operations. The first operation occurred on February 6 at Nagpur railway station. While monitoring the station, the RPF team spotted a suspicious individual carrying two bags. The team, which included an inspector, an assistant sub-inspector, and two RPF personnel, stopped the individual and inspected the bags.
During the search, the team discovered nine packets of cannabis weighing a total of 24.80 kilograms, valued at around ₹3.72 lakh. The suspect, identified as Shahid Khan from Bhind in Madhya Pradesh, allegedly admitted to transporting the drugs to Gwalior. He was subsequently detained and handed over to the GRP in Nagpur along with the seized cannabis.
Earlier, on February 3, a joint team from the RPF and GRP conducted a search of the Konark Express at Kalaburagi railway station based on specific intelligence. During the search, they found an abandoned bag under berth number 41 in coach B-1. Witnesses were present when the bag was opened, revealing 18 bundles of cannabis weighing 18.20 kilograms, with an estimated value of ₹9.10 lakh.
The seized narcotics have been sealed according to protocol, and a case has been registered against an unidentified individual at the Wadi police station. Railway officials emphasized that this operation reflects the excellent coordination between the Central Railway RPF and GRP, as well as their strong commitment to eradicating drug trafficking through the railway network.
Railway authorities have also urged passengers to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to railway officials or call the railway helpline number 139.
