Amaravati, March 15: A tragic incident occurred in Andhra Pradesh’s Annamayya district, where four family members lost their lives due to smoke inhalation. Police confirmed that this unfortunate event took place in Punganur during the night between Saturday and Sunday.
Authorities reported that the family members suffocated from the smoke emitted by a motorcycle that had been left running throughout the night. The deceased have been identified as a grandfather, his two granddaughters, and a grandson.
According to police, a man named Murali, who operates a hair salon, had his motorcycle serviced by a mechanic on Saturday. Due to an engine issue, the mechanic replaced the bore piston and advised Murali to keep the engine running overnight. Murali closed all the windows in the house and left the motorcycle running. While Murali and his wife Revathi slept on the roof, his father Ramachandraiah, their son Karthik, and twin daughters Charita and Chandana were asleep inside the house.
Police stated that the smoke from the motorcycle filled the entire house because all doors and windows were shut. On Sunday morning, Ramachandraiah (70), his twin granddaughters Charita and Chandana (8 years old), and grandson Karthik (15) were found dead. Murali and Revathi survived because they were sleeping on the roof.
The police have sent the bodies for post-mortem examination. Initial investigations revealed that all four died from suffocation due to carbon monoxide inhalation. The police have registered a case and initiated further inquiries.
In another incident on Sunday, two people died in a road accident in Visakhapatnam. According to police, the accident occurred at the BHPV junction when a truck ran over vehicles stopped at the intersection. Both victims died on the spot.
The deceased have been identified as Ramakrishna and Santoshi. The accident also damaged a car and two two-wheelers. The truck driver has since been arrested, and an investigation is underway.
