Central Government Allocates Over ₹1,500 Crore to Strengthen Rural Development in Six States

New Delhi, March 31: The central government has taken a significant step to bolster rural local governance by releasing over ₹1,500 crore to six states under the 15th Finance Commission. This funding aims to empower Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and Rural Local Bodies (RLBs) during the financial year 2025-26, facilitating local development initiatives as needed.

Telangana has received ₹247.94 crore as the first installment of untied grants for the financial year 2025-26, benefiting the state’s 12,600 Gram Panchayats (GPs).

Similarly, Uttarakhand has been allocated ₹91.31 crore as the second installment, which will support all 13 District Panchayats (DPs), 95 Block Panchayats (BPs), and 7,784 Gram Panchayats. An additional ₹1.84 crore has also been released for 216 extra Gram Panchayats.

Rajasthan has received ₹315.61 crore as the second installment, which will benefit the state’s 33 District Panchayats, 352 Block Panchayats, and 3,857 Gram Panchayats. Moreover, ₹12.57 crore has been allocated to nine District Panchayats and 13 Block Panchayats.

Meghalaya has been granted ₹27 crore as the second installment for the financial year 2021-22, aimed at supporting the state’s three autonomous district councils (Khasi, Garo, and Jaintia). Additionally, ₹22.20 crore in tied grants has been released for 816 Gram Councils.

Maharashtra has also received substantial funding across various categories. The central government has disbursed ₹109.06 crore as the first and second installments of tied grants, benefiting 12 District Panchayats and 125 Block Panchayats. Furthermore, ₹116.97 crore has been allocated as the withheld portion of the first installment for the financial year 2024-25, aiding 12 District Panchayats, 125 Block Panchayats, and 27 Gram Panchayats.

Additionally, ₹329.21 crore has been released as the withheld portion of the second installment for the financial year 2024-25, benefiting 12 District Panchayats, 125 Block Panchayats, and 5,249 Gram Panchayats. The government has also allocated ₹72.70 crore as untied grants for the first and second installments of the financial year 2025-26, which will benefit 12 District Panchayats and 125 Block Panchayats.
