CBSE Class 12 Results: Kendriya Vidyalayas Lead, Decline in Overseas Performance

New Delhi, May 13: This year, 85.20% of students passed the CBSE Class 12 board exams. Among the institutions, Kendriya Vidyalayas and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas once again achieved the best results, with Kendriya Vidyalayas topping the list. Their pass percentage stood at 98.55%, while Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas recorded a close 98.47%.

In addition, government schools had a pass percentage of 89.55%, while government-aided schools achieved 86.07%. Eklavya Model Residential Schools reported a pass percentage of 85.55%. Independent schools had a total pass percentage of 84.20%. However, there was a noticeable decline in the results from CBSE-affiliated schools abroad. In 2026, the overall pass percentage for these foreign schools was 90.50%, down from 95.01% last year, indicating a lower average result compared to the previous year.

According to data released by the board, a total of 24,047 students registered for the exams abroad in 2026. Out of these, 24,009 students appeared for the exams, and 21,728 successfully passed. In comparison, 21,825 students registered in 2025, with 21,782 appearing and 20,694 passing, resulting in a pass percentage of 95.01. Although the number of candidates increased this year, the passing percentage saw a decline of approximately 4.51%.

Education experts believe that this year’s evaluation process was more transparent and technology-driven, which may have impacted the results. The board implemented a digital on-screen marking system for the assessment of Class 12 answer sheets, aiming to enhance transparency and accuracy in the evaluation process. Teachers have described the on-screen marking system as a significant improvement.

For the first time, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) fully implemented the on-screen marking system for the 2026 Class 12 board exams. According to the board, this new digital system received positive feedback from teachers and examiners nationwide. Educators believe this initiative is a major step towards making the exam evaluation process more transparent, accurate, and modern.

The board stated that the evaluation of answer sheets through the on-screen marking system was conducted entirely on a digital platform. This reduced the likelihood of human errors in the evaluation process, resulting in more reliable outcomes.

Teachers noted that the digital system nearly eliminated the chances of errors in scoring, totaling, or adding marks, ensuring a more accurate assessment of student performance. Many examiners have highlighted this as a crucial step towards quality and objective evaluation.

Examiners noted that every activity in the online evaluation process is recorded, minimizing the chances of oversight or errors. This has made the entire process more transparent and accountable.
