New Delhi, May 12: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has revealed a significant builder-bank nexus linked to a major fraud case involving homebuyers. In this case, the CBI has filed its eighth charge sheet against M/S Logix City Developers Private Limited, its directors, and officials from ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank.
This case is associated with a housing project in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, where it is alleged that financial institutions and ordinary homebuyers suffered substantial economic losses.
The CBI investigation has uncovered that the builder company and its directors allegedly conspired with various individuals, including government officials. They misled homebuyers and investors with false promises and misleading information to encourage investments, thereby obtaining illegal financial benefits.
The investigation also revealed that some officials abused their positions to promote the builder’s illegal activities, violating regulations. This resulted in undue advantages for the builder while causing losses to banks and homebuyers.
The CBI has filed the charge sheet under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act. Charges include criminal conspiracy, fraud, criminal breach of trust, and corruption.
The agency reported that extensive documentary and oral evidence has been found, indicating a widespread conspiracy, misuse of funds, and fraud against homebuyers.
Currently, the CBI is investigating nearly 50 cases across the country, registered under the Supreme Court’s directives. These cases involve various builders and officials from financial institutions accused of fraud against homebuyers and fund diversion.
Previously, the CBI has filed charge sheets against several builders in similar cases.
