CBI Court Sentences Former Postal Assistant to Four Years for Bribery

Bhubaneswar, March 15: A CBI court in Bhubaneswar has sentenced Radha Krishna Sahu, a former assistant superintendent of the postal department, to four years of rigorous imprisonment for his involvement in a bribery case. The court also imposed a fine of 100,000 rupees.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed charges against Sahu in February 2014. He was accused of soliciting a bribe of 200,000 rupees from the complainant in exchange for initiating the joining process at the Debsol branch post office, where he was serving as a GDS/MD/MC.

Sahu failed to take any action regarding the complainant’s joining and instead demanded an initial payment of 50,000 rupees from the total bribe amount on February 3, 2014. When the complainant expressed his inability to pay the full amount, Sahu agreed to accept the bribe in two installments. The first payment of 20,000 rupees was scheduled to take place at his rented home in Baliganj on February 6, 2014.

The CBI set a trap and caught Sahu red-handed while he was demanding and accepting the 20,000 rupees from the complainant. Following the investigation, the CBI filed a charge sheet against him on June 25, 2014.

After the hearing, the court found Sahu guilty and sentenced him to four years in prison.

In a related incident, the CBI recently arrested two officials in a bribery case at the Food Corporation of India (FCI) depot in Chandosi, Uttar Pradesh. The arrests were made following a written complaint from the owner of a private firm. The complainant reported that he had already deposited 16 stacks of rice at the FCI Babraala depot and planned to deposit eight more. The depot in charge illegally demanded 50,000 rupees to pass the stacks and an additional 15,000 rupees for each of the remaining eight stacks. The investigation revealed that the manager was also involved in this conspiracy.
