Amaravati, September 23 (Daily Kiran) : A CBI court in Visakhapatnam has found D. Venu Gopal Naidu, a former sub-postmaster, guilty of fraud. The verdict was delivered on September 23, 2026. Naidu served at the Kotturu sub-post office under the Shrikakulam division in Andhra Pradesh.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sentenced him to five years in prison and imposed a fine of ₹7,000. The case against Naidu was registered on March 6, 2020, following allegations that he had embezzled ₹4,795,000 from government funds between February 21 and August 24, 2019.
Naidu was accused of committing criminal breach of trust, fraud, and manipulation of accounts, as well as misappropriating government funds as a public servant. After a thorough investigation, the CBI submitted a charge sheet against him on December 31, 2020. Following the trial, the court convicted him and issued the corresponding sentence.
In a related development, another significant case emerged from Jaipur, where the CBI court sentenced three public servants from Oriental Bank of Commerce to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for their involvement in a bank fraud. The convicted officials included Ramji Lal Meena, the former branch manager, Murari Lal Meena, the former special assistant, and Than Singh Lashkar, a housekeeper. Each was also fined ₹85,000.
The CBI had registered this case on February 1, 2019, based on a complaint from the bank’s then deputy general manager. The complaint alleged that Murari Lal Meena had abused his position by issuing unauthorized ‘No Dues Certificates,’ allowing the release of mortgaged properties despite outstanding loans. The fraudulent activities resulted in a loss of ₹1,214,660.71 across three loan accounts for the bank.
