Bengaluru, July 2: IT giant Capgemini has temporarily shut down its daycare center located within its campus in Bengaluru following allegations of child abuse. This decision was announced in a statement from the company.
The company emphasized, “Capgemini’s top priority is the health, safety, and well-being of its employees and their families.”
Capgemini further stated that it is fully cooperating with the relevant authorities to uncover the truth behind the allegations.
The statement added, “As a precautionary measure, we are temporarily closing the daycare facility at our Bengaluru campus.”
Reports indicate that an FIR has been filed against five female caregivers under relevant sections of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act.
This daycare facility is situated in the HAL campus of Capgemini in Brookfield, Bengaluru.
Police revealed that the alleged incidents came to light after videos surfaced on WhatsApp, showing abuse occurring inside the childcare center.
According to the FIR lodged at the HAL police station on June 29, following a complaint from an officer of the District Child Protection Unit, the names of five caregivers were included in the report.
The complaint alleges that the caregivers physically assaulted and intimidated small children when they cried. It is believed that the affected children are between the ages of two and three years.
The FIR also claims that some children were sprayed with toilet jet spray in their mouths, locked in bathrooms, forced to sit on Western-style toilets, and placed inside front-loading washing machines.
Meanwhile, police are investigating these serious allegations.
Earlier in January, Capgemini announced plans to cut up to 2,400 jobs in France, representing about 6% of its total workforce in the country. The IT services company is facing reduced demand in key sectors of its domestic market.
