Brazilian Federal Police Investigate Alleged Plot Against U.S. Diplomatic Missions

Sao Paulo, October 3 (Daily Kiran) : Brazilian authorities are investigating an alleged plot targeting U.S. diplomatic missions. Following a judge’s approval, the Federal Police conducted searches in Sao Paulo and near Brasilia on October 3. These operations were linked to two suspects, according to local media reports.

During the raids, officials seized computers and mobile phones for forensic analysis. However, the police stated that they have not yet found any evidence confirming the reported security threats. Furthermore, no connections between the suspects and any criminal organizations have been established.

Police described the raids as a precautionary measure. The investigation is being carried out discreetly, with assistance from foreign intelligence agencies.

This action comes as both U.S. and Australian diplomatic missions in Brazil suspended services or temporarily closed their offices due to security concerns, just two days before Brazil’s presidential elections.

According to a report from the Xinhua News Agency, U.S. diplomatic facilities across Brazil have suspended in-person consular services until further notice. This includes the embassy in Brasilia and consulates in Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre, and Recife.

Additionally, the U.S. embassy and consulates have halted visa processing and issuance. Local military police have increased security around the U.S. embassy in Brasilia, while certain areas surrounding the consulate in Sao Paulo have been cordoned off.

The Australian embassy in Brasilia also announced its closure on Friday for security reasons, advising Australian citizens to avoid U.S. diplomatic locations and their vicinity. Voting for Brazil’s general and presidential elections is scheduled for Sunday.
