Surat, July 15: Panic erupted in Surat, Gujarat, when authorities received bomb threats targeting the passport office and post office. The Surat police, along with bomb and dog squads, swiftly arrived at the scene to investigate the alarming reports.
Just two days prior, an email had been sent to the Surat District Court claiming the presence of RDX explosives. Now, another threatening email has surfaced, raising concerns about the safety of the passport and post offices.
Inspector Tejas Garhvi of the local police station spoke with IANA, stating, “We received a threatening message claiming that bombs were placed at the passport office and post office in Nanpura. The police acted immediately, ensuring the safe evacuation of employees from the post office without causing panic.”
Inspector Garhvi further added, “The bomb squad thoroughly checked the entire building of the post office. During the inspection, we found no suspicious items related to the threat. The area remains calm, and there is no cause for concern.” He mentioned that the police control room had alerted them about the situation, and a comprehensive investigation would follow.
This incident follows a similar threat on June 17, when bomb threats were emailed to municipal offices in Jamnagar and Vadodara, causing significant alarm among local authorities. In response, the relevant municipal buildings were evacuated, and security agencies launched extensive investigations.
ACP R.R. Ahir commented on the previous threats, stating, “After receiving the bomb threat email, we evacuated the Surat Municipal Corporation headquarters. The police, dog squad, and bomb disposal teams conducted a thorough search of the building, but nothing suspicious has been found so far.”
