Guwahati, August 13: In a stunning display at the 135th Durand Cup, Bodoland FC crushed Karbi Anglong Morning Star FC 6-0 in their final Group F match on Thursday. Local player and former international footballer Halicharan Narzary shone brightly, scoring four goals and assisting on two others. Despite this impressive victory, Bodoland FC failed to qualify for the knockout stage as they did not finish in the top two.
The match took place at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium, where Narzary netted two goals in each half. Following the break, Kaushik Daimari and Gwgwamsar Gayari also scored, sealing Bodoland FC’s remarkable win. Even with six points from three matches, Bodoland FC could not advance to the quarter-finals. East Bengal FC and Jamshedpur FC also secured six points, but their superior goal difference kept them ahead of Bodoland FC. Meanwhile, Karbi Anglong Morning Star FC ended their campaign without any points for the second consecutive season.
Bodoland FC was awarded a penalty in the 11th minute when Siddharth Khichi was brought down inside the box by Karbi Anglong’s goalkeeper Muhammad Murshid. Halicharan Narzary initiated the play with a brilliant pass to Robinson Rendon, who then set up Siddharth. As the forward approached the goal, he was fouled by the goalkeeper. Narzary calmly converted the penalty, giving Bodoland the lead.
Bodoland doubled their advantage in the 28th minute, with Narzary and Rendon combining effectively once again. Rendon provided a timely pass to Narzary, who broke through Karbi Anglong’s high defensive line. Narzary skillfully cut inside to evade a challenge from Singson and slotted the ball into the bottom corner for his second goal of the match.
The second half saw Bodoland FC continue their dominant performance. Just six minutes after the restart, substitute Kaushik Daimari received the ball between two defenders. He turned quickly and evaded both, then struck a left-footed shot from the edge of the box that found the net.
Bodoland FC maintained their aggressive play, with Narzary controlling the game from the left wing while Daimari provided width on the opposite side. Narzary delivered a dangerous ball into the box for Kiatolua Amos, but the Angolan midfielder’s shot was brilliantly saved by the advancing goalkeeper.
In the 84th minute, just six minutes before the final whistle, Narzary completed his hat-trick with a superb finish. Daimari sent a precise cross to the back post, where Narzary took a touch to control the ball before calmly lifting it over the onrushing goalkeeper.
Five minutes later, in the 89th minute, Narzary assisted Bodoland FC’s fifth goal. He delivered a low cross from the right wing to substitute Gwgwamsar Gayari, who made no mistake from close range, scoring with his left foot.
There was still time for another goal, and once again, in the 90+3 minute, Halicharan Narzary scored, completing his four-goal haul. The forward broke through Karbi Anglong’s defense once more, deceiving the goalkeeper to find the back of the net. Narzary’s outstanding performance was pivotal in all six of Bodoland’s goals. However, despite this remarkable win, Bodoland FC could not qualify for the knockout stage as one of the best second-placed teams.
