Amritsar, June 3: Punjabi film actor and comedian BN Sharma has publicly apologized to the Valmiki community for controversial remarks made during a recent podcast. On Wednesday, he visited the Valmiki pilgrimage site in Amritsar with his family and friends, where he bowed in reverence and acknowledged his mistake.
The controversy arose from statements allegedly disrespecting Lord Valmiki, which sparked outrage among members of the Valmiki community. Taking the matter seriously, the Valmiki Tirth Action Committee filed a written complaint with the police commissioner of Amritsar, demanding action.
In light of the escalating situation, Sharma decided to meet with representatives of the community to clarify his position. At the pilgrimage site, he stated, “During the podcast, I inadvertently made a remark that hurt people’s religious sentiments. I had no intention of disrespecting any religion, community, or revered figure.”
Sharma emphasized that as an artist, his goal has always been to entertain people and convey positive messages to society. He expressed heartfelt apologies for any distress caused by his comments. He also noted that his entire family was present to extend their apologies to the Valmiki community.
He thanked the leaders and representatives of the Valmiki community for their significant role in fostering unity and brotherhood. Sharma expressed particular gratitude to those who helped resolve the issue peacefully through dialogue and understanding.
He conveyed his respect for Maharishi Valmiki, stating that he has always honored him and will continue to do so. He urged the community to allow opportunities for correction in case of future misunderstandings.
In a show of magnanimity, the Valmiki community accepted Sharma’s apology. Representatives stated that their aim was not to seek punitive action but to ensure respect for religious sentiments. Following the acceptance of the apology, the controversy has been resolved.
