Macron Condemns Violent Protests by Ultra-Left Groups in France

French President Macron addresses violent protests, labeling ultra-left actions as treasonous while seeking to prevent future unrest.

Paris, October 22 (Daily Kiran) : French President Emmanuel Macron returned from a Gulf tour to convene a meeting with ministers and the Security Council in Paris on October 22. The focus was on strategies to prevent violent incidents occurring on the streets of French cities. During the discussions, the actions of ‘ultra-left’ groups were condemned as treasonous, with Macron hinting at a potential ban on protests not organized by trade unions.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Macron acknowledged that there were shortcomings in handling the protests over the past weekend, attributing some of the chaos to its sudden emergence. He emphasized the need for the government to learn from this experience and apply those lessons to upcoming events.

Macron stated that local authorities would be empowered to take necessary measures, such as prohibiting gatherings. He also assured that the judicial system would be fully prepared to address any situation that arises.

The President supported calls from the Justice Ministry for strict penalties for those involved in the riots. He clarified his stance on the unrest, asserting that organized ‘ultra-left’ groups are engaging in political treason aimed at undermining the Republic. These groups have openly taken responsibility for acts of extreme violence.

He pledged that the government would demonstrate “full resolve” in preventing further riots and would work on multiple fronts to restore order. While legal protests organized by trade unions would be reviewed under the law to ensure their safety, Macron made it clear that any protests not sanctioned by unions would be subject to a complete ban “as far as possible.”

Additionally, he reassured that Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne would meet with student organizations next week to address their legitimate demands and concerns.
