Imphal, October 22 (Daily Kiran) : Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh of Manipur reaffirmed his government’s commitment to addressing the concerns of all communities in the state. Speaking on Thursday, he emphasized the importance of creating a peaceful, secure, and inclusive environment.
During a meeting with a delegation from the Maring and Tangkhul Naga communities from Tengnoupal district, Khemchand highlighted the government’s determination to ensure the welfare of every community. A senior official from the Chief Minister’s Office reported that the discussions focused on various issues affecting the Maring Naga villages, including infrastructure, healthcare, security, and community development.
The Maring Uparap Assembly, the leading civil society organization of the Maring Naga community, presented several pressing concerns to the government. They stressed the need for improvements in roads and bridges to enhance connectivity between villages. The delegation also requested that the existing Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Machi be upgraded to a Community Health Centre (CHC) to strengthen healthcare services and improve access to medical facilities for local residents.
On law and order issues, the representatives pointed out the shortage of police personnel at the Machi Block police station, where only 25 officers are available to secure approximately 50 villages. They urged the Chief Minister to deploy additional staff to bolster the police presence in the area.
Furthermore, the delegation noted that the Bank of Baroda is the only bank in the Machi Block and called for enhanced security measures to protect staff, customers, and assets. They also requested the establishment of a community hall in each village to facilitate public gatherings, social events, and other community activities.
Khemchand listened attentively to the concerns raised by the delegation and assured them that the government would take necessary actions on the issues discussed. The delegation was led by Jajo Silvester (village chief), Chairperson of the Maring Uparap Assembly Vairook Haengshing, and Bosco Maring, the head of Machi village.
