BJP Spokesperson Clarifies Rules for Tiranga Yatra Amid Opposition Protests
BJPs RP Singh emphasizes that political rallies need prior permission, highlighting legal requirements for the Tiranga Yatra.

New Delhi, October 14 (Daily Kiran) : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson RP Singh addressed concerns regarding the Tiranga Yatra, asserting that while no one is barred from participating, political events must adhere to legal protocols. He emphasized that, according to a Supreme Court ruling, organizers must secure permission at least ten days in advance for any demonstration under a political banner.
Singh criticized the opposition for attempting to use the Tiranga Yatra as a platform for political protest. He noted the historical context of shifting protest sites, referencing past incidents, including a bomb plot during a previous demonstration near Parliament.
“The Tiranga Yatra can proceed, but if you want to organize an event under a political party or organization, prior approval is essential,” Singh stated. He pointed out that the opposition seems to lack public support, citing a recent event in Assam where over 30,000 youths rallied in support of India, chanting slogans in favor of the nation.
Singh also mentioned that the opposition’s actions appear to be driven by pressure from their supporters, who expect visible results. He highlighted the internal dissent within the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), referencing a former member’s continued support for AAP while opposing the BJP.
Regarding the arrest of activist Sourav Das, Singh clarified that he had signed an affidavit agreeing to refrain from unlawful activities for one year. He reminded that the government has designated Ramlila Maidan as the new protest site, and any unauthorized gatherings there would prompt police action.
Singh concluded by reflecting on the historical use of protest sites, noting that events had previously taken place at Boat Club before being moved to Jantar Mantar. He underscored the sensitivity of the Lutyens’ Delhi area, which includes the Parliament and several ministerial residences, emphasizing that all political activities must respect legal boundaries.
