Shimla, June 18: In a significant development for Himachal Pradesh, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Harsh Mahajan expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for the historic agreement regarding the Kishaau multipurpose dam project.
Mahajan welcomed the long-awaited agreement among the concerned states, highlighting it as a prime example of the central government’s approach of “solution through dialogue.”
The former state cabinet minister stated that the consensus reached during a meeting chaired by Home Minister Shah, which included representatives from Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Rajasthan, marks a crucial achievement. This agreement will not only rejuvenate the Yamuna River but also open new avenues for water conservation, energy production, and regional development.
He noted that the central government has demonstrated its commitment by deciding to bear 90 percent of the costs associated with the project’s water component.
“This reflects the central government’s serious commitment to the development and welfare of all states, especially Himachal Pradesh, under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership,” Mahajan remarked.
He urged the Congress party and the state government to acknowledge the efforts of the central government and Home Minister Amit Shah for this initiative.
“It is unfortunate that Congress leaders are attempting to claim credit for this historic decision, while the reality is that advancing this long-stalled project was made possible entirely through the initiative and leadership of the central government,” he added.
Mahajan called on Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu and Congress leaders to welcome this decision taken in the interest of the state and the nation, rather than seeking political gain, and to appreciate Prime Minister Modi’s efforts.
The former fisheries minister expressed confidence that the implementation of the Kishaau multipurpose dam project will yield long-term benefits for Himachal Pradesh and play a vital role in achieving a clean Yamuna.
