BJP MP Denies Operation Lotus Claims Amid AAP Defections

New Delhi, April 24: BJP Rajya Sabha MP Narhari Amin stated on Friday that his party does not engage in breaking other parties, asserting that leaders join voluntarily. This statement comes in light of recent allegations of ‘Operation Lotus’ following developments within the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

In an interview, Amin emphasized that decisions made by Raghav Chadha and other leaders were independent. He noted that the BJP maintains an open approach towards individuals wishing to join the party. “We do not break parties; they are joining us of their own free will,” he remarked.

His comments follow the resignation of Chadha and six other Rajya Sabha MPs from AAP, marking a significant political shift. However, Amin hinted that some factions within the party leadership, particularly Arvind Kejriwal and MP Sanjay Singh, were not in favor of this open approach.

Amin suggested that the leadership preferred Chadha to focus more on party matters, including targeting the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. After resigning, Chadha told reporters that he felt he was “the right person in the wrong party,” indicating internal disagreements regarding priorities and operations within AAP.

In a separate press conference, Sanjay Singh accused the BJP of attempting to weaken AAP through ‘Operation Lotus.’ The BJP has firmly denied these claims.

Amin reiterated that the BJP follows a process before accepting any new members, considering candidates’ qualifications and consulting local leaders and the public. Reflecting on his own experience, he recalled that when he left Congress in 2012, the BJP welcomed him, even receiving a call from Narendra Modi.

He concluded that the current political developments reflect voluntary decisions by individuals rather than any attempts at forced defections by the BJP.
