BJP Hits Out at Congress Over Shashi Tharoor’s Alleged Insult

Ahmedabad: BJP leader Rohan Gupta has strongly criticised the Congress party following the alleged insult of MP Shashi Tharoor. Gupta accused Congress of turning against the nation by opposing the government while highlighting Tharoor’s role during Operation Sindoor, where he represented India firmly on the international stage.

Speaking to a news agency, Rohan Gupta stated that internal discord within Congress is becoming increasingly visible. He claimed that the only ‘mistake’ made by Shashi Tharoor was upholding India’s official position abroad during Operation Sindoor. Gupta emphasised that Tharoor spoke as India’s representative to world leaders, not as a spokesperson of any political party, yet the Congress leadership failed to honour him.

Gupta further cited a recent incident where Rahul Gandhi did not acknowledge Tharoor’s greeting despite being present on the same platform, calling it a clear insult. He questioned whether speaking in favour of the country on a global stage should be considered a crime.

He criticised Congress for calling the nation’s economy a ‘dead economy’ and opposing national security initiatives like Operation Sindoor. According to Gupta, Congress’s opposition to the government has reached a point where its stance often appears anti-national, including the disrespect shown to their own senior leader and eloquent speaker, Shashi Tharoor.

Rohan Gupta also claimed that the public is aware that Congress tends to alienate leaders who stand with the nation, gradually pushing them away from the party. He described the treatment of Shashi Tharoor as a reflection of Congress’s internal politics and intolerance.

Additionally, Gupta targeted West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the Trinamool Congress (TMC), stating that the party avoids addressing critical issues like law and order, widespread corruption, violence, and appeasement politics in the state. He alleged that to divert attention from these problems, TMC is forced to oppose the Special Intelligence Report (SIR).

He urged TMC to disclose the number of official objections it has filed regarding the SIR draft list, noting that Election Commission records show fewer than ten complaints. Gupta stressed that political opposition cannot be raised against every matter, especially when the SIR is part of a constitutional process. He concluded by saying that the people of Bengal understand the situation well and will respond appropriately at the right time.
