BJP Files Complaint Against TMC Leader Abhishek Banerjee for Incendiary Speech

Kolkata, April 8: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has lodged a complaint with the Election Commission against Abhishek Banerjee, the All India General Secretary of the Trinamool Congress (TMC). The BJP accuses Banerjee of violating the Model Code of Conduct and making incendiary remarks. Allegedly, during a rally in Raina, West Bengal, he threatened BJP and its workers.

In a letter to the Election Commission, the BJP stated, “Banerjee’s objectionable comments are a direct and clear call for violence against a recognized national political party and its workers. The language used at the rally is extremely incendiary, aimed at instilling fear, intimidating political opponents, and contaminating the environment necessary for free and fair elections in West Bengal. Such remarks pose a serious threat to public order and democratic processes. Therefore, immediate action is required.”

The BJP further noted, “We have submitted several similar complaints regarding incendiary statements made by TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee. However, no action has been taken against her so far. Such reprehensible conduct seems to be prevalent within TMC’s leadership. The period following the 2021 assembly elections in West Bengal was marked by widespread violence orchestrated by TMC leadership, resulting in the deaths of over 55 BJP workers, mass rapes of women, numerous injuries, and property damage. The severity and extent of these incidents prompted the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to take notice and issue a stringent report against the West Bengal government and its administration.”

The BJP emphasized that both Abhishek Banerjee and Mamata Banerjee significantly influence party workers and grassroots supporters. Such statements escalate tensions and incite workers further, creating an unpleasant and unstable electoral atmosphere. Therefore, the Commission should take their statements and conduct very seriously.
