Bengaluru, January 29 – The Karnataka BJP has accused the Congress-led state government of transforming Karnataka from an IT hub into a “drugs park.” The allegation was made by BJP state general secretary and senior legislator V. Sunil Kumar during a discussion on the Governor’s address in the Assembly on Thursday.
Sunil Kumar stated, “What was once known as Karnataka IT Park has now become a drugs park. Maharashtra Police had to conduct raids to uncover drug factories in Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s home district of Mysuru. Similarly, Delhi Police raided drug factories in Bengaluru.”
He added that in a recent meeting, the Chief Minister questioned IPS officers on why Karnataka Police have not been able to detect drug factories operating in the state, unlike police forces from other states. The Chief Minister reportedly said, “Nothing happens without the knowledge of the police. If Maharashtra Police can identify these activities, why can’t you?”
Sunil Kumar accused the government of allowing Karnataka to become fertile ground for drug mafias, tarnishing the state’s image. He said, “You have completely destroyed law and order. We have never seen such misuse of the police department before.”
He also highlighted the deteriorating law and order situation and alleged the emergence of “selective justice” in the state. “There is one law for the common people and another for Congress leaders. The law has not been applied equally during the last two and a half years of Congress rule,” he claimed.
Referring to various incidents, Sunil Kumar mentioned that the Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council was taken into custody in Kalaburagi but no legal action was taken by the government. In contrast, the government took arbitrary action against BJP MLC C.T. Ravi for his remarks against Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar.
He questioned why the government took 14 days to act in the case where a woman municipal commissioner in Sidlaghatta, Kolar district, was threatened by a Congress leader. “It took 14 days to identify your own leader. Does the government think law and order is fine in the state?”
Sunil Kumar further alleged that in Shivamogga district, the son of a Congress MLA threatened government officials, indicating that Congress leaders can act with impunity.
The BJP leader said the situation is so bad that JD(S) MLA Kareamma Nayak complained in the House about receiving threats from sand mafias. Senior legislator S. Suresh Kumar also said that his Bengaluru residence was targeted by Congress workers.
