Bhubaneswar, March 31: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has strongly condemned BJP MP Nishikant Dubey’s offensive remarks about Biju Patnaik and is demanding an apology.
On Monday, BJD’s youth and student organizations, Biju Yuva Janata Dal and Chhatra Janata Dal, protested at Master Canteen Square in Bhubaneswar, vocally opposing Dubey’s statements.
During a press conference held at the BJD headquarters, senior vice president Debi Prasad Mishra and the party’s chief whip in the Odisha Assembly, Pramila Malik, condemned Dubey’s remarks and called for an immediate, unconditional apology.
Pramila Malik stated that Dubey lacks accurate knowledge about Biju Babu’s contributions to the nation, which led him to make such objectionable comments. She noted that supporters of Biju Babu across the state and country have reacted strongly to Dubey’s statements.
She remarked, βIt is unfortunate that BJP leaders in power in the state remain silent on this issue. The 20 BJP MPs elected in the recent elections have also not responded. The BJP came to power in the name of Odia identity, but this reflects otherwise. Therefore, Dubey should apologize unconditionally to the people of the state and the nation.β
Senior leader Debi Prasad Mishra emphasized that Biju Patnaik was a great freedom fighter and a visionary leader with a profound understanding of defense, aviation, and international relations, which earned him international recognition.
Mishra stated that Biju Babu participated in several significant missions and risked his life multiple times in service to the country. Calling such a person a CIA agent is extremely unfortunate and condemnable.
Previously, the leader of the opposition in the Odisha Assembly and BJD chief Naveen Patnaik also criticized Dubey’s remarks, suggesting that he needs to see a mental health professional for making such statements.
This controversy began with Dubey’s comments made on March 27, where he commented on India’s foreign and defense policy in the 1960s. He alleged that during the 1962 India-China war, then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru had connections with the United States and its intelligence agency, the CIA, and that Biju Patnaik played a mediating role in these matters.
