Patna, March 25: Bhai Virendra, a lawmaker from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), has issued a stern warning to Bihar’s double-engine government regarding the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). He stated that if the government has the courage, it should demonstrate its ability by enforcing UCC in the state. “We will not allow the UCC to be implemented in Bihar,” he asserted.
This statement comes in the wake of the Gujarat Assembly passing the UCC bill, making Gujarat the second state to implement this code, following Uttarakhand, where the BJP government had previously enacted it.
In a conversation in Patna, RJD’s Bhai Virendra criticized the government for introducing laws and discussing various new initiatives. He questioned why, amidst discussions of ‘One Nation, One Election,’ there is no talk of ‘One Nation, One Education.’ He accused the BJP government of pushing the UCC solely to fulfill its agenda, suggesting that it aims to target a specific religion.
He emphasized that the country belongs to everyone, noting that people of all religions contributed significantly to the freedom struggle. He raised concerns about the BJP’s alignment with the agenda of the RSS, questioning its role in the fight for independence. “By implementing the UCC, the BJP has made it clear that it wants to advance the RSS agenda. However, the people of this country will never tolerate it. We firmly believe that when other governments come to power, the previous laws will be reinstated,” he stated.
While warning the NDA government, he challenged them to implement UCC in Bihar, asserting that such actions will not be tolerated here.
Regarding the all-party meeting called amidst ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, Bhai Virendra expressed that such meetings should indeed be convened. He criticized American dominance in the Gulf region, stating that India should take a stand against it.
On Rahul Gandhi’s absence from the all-party meeting, he remarked that if Gandhi was not attending, it must be due to some important commitment. He expressed optimism that a representative would attend in his place.
