Mumbai, July 15: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary announced the launch of academic activities at the newly established Rajkiya Degree College in Goradih, Bhagalpur, on Wednesday. This initiative is part of the state’s plan to open 211 new degree colleges.
During the event, the Chief Minister highlighted the establishment of an Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Computer Science University in Bhagalpur as a historic step towards expanding higher education in the state. He emphasized the government’s commitment to providing quality education in every block, enabling students to access educational opportunities within their own regions.
Chaudhary also mentioned that efforts are underway to modernize the ancient Vikramshila University, aiming to revive Bihar’s proud educational heritage. Approximately 220 acres of land have already been transferred for this purpose, with plans to establish the university within the next year.
In addition to the AI and Computer Science University in Bhagalpur, an Architecture and Civil Engineering University will be set up in Muzaffarpur. The state has also approved four new private universities. The Chief Minister made several announcements related to infrastructure and industrial development, including a target to fully restore the damaged Vikramshila Bridge by November 30. An industrial area spanning around 400 acres will be developed in Bhagalpur, creating job opportunities for local youth.
Furthermore, construction has begun on the 83-kilometer-long Ganga Marine Drive from Munger to Bhagalpur, which will be extended from Sabour to the Rajmahal border. A ropeway will also be built for the convenience of pilgrims visiting the Bateshwar Dham temple in Kahalgaon. Plans are in place to develop two airports in the Bhagalpur region, including SultanGanj, and a 2,400-megawatt power plant is being established in Pirpainti, with a potential increase of 1,600 megawatts.
This project will involve an investment of approximately ₹70,000 crores. The Chief Minister adopted a strict stance on law and order, stating that action will be taken against criminals, regardless of their caste or class. He affirmed that there is no place for criminals in Bihar and announced the establishment of fast-track courts to ensure swift justice. Stringent measures will also be implemented to combat cybercrime.
During the program, the Chief Minister distributed symbolic checks and certificates to beneficiaries of various government schemes. The event was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, Higher Education and Law Minister Sanjay Singh Tiger, MP Ajay Kumar Mandal, along with numerous representatives, officials, and a large audience.
