Patna, March 29: Bihar’s Agriculture Minister Ram Kripal Yadav has reassured farmers across the state that the ongoing tensions in West Asia will not adversely affect agriculture in Bihar or India.
He highlighted that approximately 76% of Bihar’s population relies on agriculture, making it a top priority for both the state and central governments.
To protect farmers’ interests, officials at both district and panchayat levels have been placed on high alert. During a recent departmental review, strict instructions were issued to district agricultural officers to ensure the uninterrupted availability of fertilizers, prevent black marketing, and verify and monitor fertilizer stock levels.
The minister clarified that the monitoring will extend beyond retailers to include stockholders and even government officials. Strict action will be taken against any negligence.
Special attention is being given to border areas near Nepal to curb illegal fertilizer smuggling.
Additionally, steps are being taken to expedite the issuance of licenses for Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) to ensure farmers receive necessary inputs promptly and efficiently.
Overall, the government is adopting a proactive approach to maintain stability in the agricultural sector despite global uncertainties.
Ram Kripal Yadav assured Bihar’s farmers that there is no shortage of fertilizers in the state. He noted that Bihar currently has sufficient and surplus stocks of all major fertilizers, including urea, di-ammonium phosphate (DAP), nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium (NPK), muriate of potash (MOP), and single super phosphate (SSP).
According to the minister, the available stock is more than adequate to meet current demand, and the government is closely monitoring supply and distribution.
He urged farmers not to pay attention to rumors and misinformation, emphasizing that there is no need for panic. Officials are actively monitoring the situation at all levels to ensure smooth availability.
Furthermore, the government is promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
