Bhumi Pednekar Advocates for Better Roles for Women in Mainstream Cinema at International Film Festival

New Delhi, March 30: The dream of making it big in the film industry is now a reality in Delhi, as the International Film Festival is being held for the first time in the city. The festival, running until March 31, has attracted a star-studded lineup. On Monday, actress Bhumi Pednekar, known for her leading roles in films like ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ and ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha,’ attended the event alongside actor Manav Vij.

Speaking to the media, Pednekar expressed her joy at being part of the festival. She emphasized that Delhi greatly needs such an event, and credited the hard work of the government and organizers for providing artists and producers with a significant platform. “Though I am a Mumbaikar, my heart beats for Delhi,” she stated.

Discussing the changes in OTT and cinema, the actress noted that the experimental roles available on OTT platforms are largely due to writers who create such characters. “We just have to choose the right roles,” she said. However, she pointed out that mainstream cinema does not offer as many good and experimental roles for women as OTT does, but she remains hopeful for change in the industry.

Punjabi actor Manav Vij also participated in the festival, showcasing a special screening of his film ‘Maan Jaye.’ He shared with the media that this film is particularly special to him, and he dedicated himself fully to bringing his character to life. “I knew the film would be good, but I didn’t expect it to receive such honor,” he remarked.

Vij highlighted the importance of the International Film Festival in promoting quality cinema and inspiring others to create good films. “You can only improve something when it has a better platform,” he concluded.
