Jaipur, May 10: Union Minister for Culture and Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, announced that a statue of the late Bhairon Singh Shekhawat will be unveiled in Jodhpur on May 14. Shekhawat, who served as the former Vice President and was a three-time Chief Minister of Rajasthan, was described as a “walking university” of Indian democracy. Throughout his extensive public life, he guided thousands of party workers and provided new direction to politics through his ideals of experience, conduct, and public service.
After reviewing the preparations for the statue’s unveiling, Shekhawat emphasized the deep respect and affection the people of Rajasthan have always held for this towering leader. He stated that the statue will inspire future generations towards democratic values, good governance, and public service.
The Minister highlighted that Bhairon Singh Shekhawat was not just a leader of the BJP but a people’s leader who transcended ideological boundaries, inspiring politicians from all parties. Both BJP leaders and many opposition figures benefited from his vast experience and sought his guidance in public life.
Shekhawat stressed that the responsibilities of a public representative extend far beyond policy-making. It includes reaching out to the public, listening to their grievances, and ensuring their resolution. In line with this commitment, he plans to spend the night in the Falsund Gram Panchayat of the Pokaran assembly constituency, where he will engage with local residents.
He remarked that Shekhawat’s life demonstrated that politics is not merely a means to gain power, but one of the most effective ways to serve society. The statue will serve as a lasting source of inspiration for public service, simplicity, and democratic values.
The unveiling ceremony will also see the participation of several senior leaders, including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, and BJP Rajasthan President Madan Rathore. Earlier, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat conducted a public hearing at the Circuit House for over two hours.
