
Harare: Bangladesh secured a crucial seven-wicket victory against the United States of America (USA) in the Under-19 World Cup 2026, earning their place in the Super-6 stage. New Zealand also advanced to the next round, while India had earlier qualified as the first team from Group B.
The Group B match, held at Takashinga Sports Club, saw the USA bat first after losing the toss. The American side was restricted to 199 runs, losing early wickets with two down for just six runs.
Utkarsh Srivastava and Sahil Garg then stabilised the innings with a 51-run partnership off 90 balls for the third wicket. Garg scored 35 runs from 60 balls, including two sixes and two fours, before getting out. However, the USA lost five wickets by the time the score reached 89. Captain Srivastava contributed 39 runs off 65 balls before being dismissed.
Adnit Jhamb took charge in the later stages, building small partnerships and guiding the team to 199 runs. He added 43 runs for the eighth wicket with Adit Kappa and remained unbeaten on 68 runs from 69 balls, hitting one six and three fours. From the Bangladesh bowling attack, Iqbal Hussain Imon took three wickets, while Al Fahad, Sheharyar Ahmed, and Mohammad Rizan Hussain claimed two wickets each.
In response, Bangladesh reached the target comfortably in 41.3 overs. Javad Abrar and Rift Beg laid a solid foundation with a 78-run opening stand in 14.2 overs.
Javad scored 47 runs off 42 balls, including three sixes and five fours, before getting out. Rift followed soon after, making 30 runs from 55 balls with three boundaries.
Azizul Hakim Tamim then partnered with Kalam Siddiqui Alin for an 88-run stand for the third wicket, steering Bangladesh to the brink of victory. Azizul scored 64 runs off 82 balls, including two sixes and two fours, before being dismissed. Kalam remained unbeaten on 30 runs. For the USA, Ritvik Appidi, Srivastava, and Garg took one wicket each.
With this win, Bangladesh confirms its place in the Super-6, setting up exciting contests ahead in the Under-19 World Cup 2026.
