Darwin, August 13: The first Test match between Australia and Bangladesh is taking place at the Marrara Cricket Ground in Darwin. The opening day was entirely in favor of Bangladesh. After dismissing Australia for just 198 runs in their first innings, Bangladesh reached 96 runs for the loss of only one wicket.
Bangladesh’s start was not ideal, with Shadman Islam scoring 20 runs off 30 balls before getting out. However, Tanjid Hasan Tamim and Mominul Haque steadied the innings, ensuring no further wickets fell by the end of the day’s play.
The pair has put together an unbeaten partnership of 60 runs for the second wicket. Tanjid is currently on 32 runs from 67 balls, while Mominul has scored 35 runs off 49 balls, including six boundaries. Mitchell Starc is the only Australian bowler to claim a wicket.
Earlier, Bangladesh’s bowlers delivered an impressive performance, restricting Australia to 198 runs in their first innings. Travis Head and Jack Weatherald added 45 runs for the first wicket. Head was bowled out for 22 runs by Hasan Mahmud, while Weatherald managed only 23 runs. Marnus Labuschagne fell for just one run, dismissed by Ebadot Hossain. Cameron Green returned to the pavilion after scoring 13 runs.
Alex Carey and Beau Webster were dismissed for 19 and 12 runs, respectively. However, Steve Smith anchored the innings with a solid half-century, scoring 71 runs off 109 balls before being caught by Liton Das off Hasan Mahmud’s bowling.
Captain Pat Cummins scored only 9 runs, while Mitchell Starc (1 run) and Nathan Lyon (7 runs) also failed to contribute significantly. Josh Hazlewood remained not out at 7 runs. In the bowling department, Hasan Mahmud was exceptional, taking 6 wickets for 55 runs, while Taskin Ahmed and Ebadot Hossain each claimed two wickets.
