Raipur, June 7: Young batsman Ayush Pandey has made history by being selected for the India ‘A’ team, becoming the first cricketer from Chhattisgarh to achieve this honor. This selection marks a significant milestone for Chhattisgarh cricket. Ayush will represent the India ‘A’ team in a two-match four-day Test series against Sri Lanka ‘A’, scheduled from June 25 to July 5.
Ayush, an opening batsman, has earned the selectors’ trust due to his consistent outstanding performances in domestic cricket. Over the past few years, he has made a name for himself in various major domestic competitions, including the Ranji Trophy.
Starting his cricket journey at the Riyaz Cricket Academy in Raipur, Ayush began playing at a young age. His path from junior cricket to the Ranji Trophy has been paved with hard work, discipline, and continuous practice. Training at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) has also played a crucial role in honing his skills.
Expressing joy over this achievement, Ayush’s father stated that there could be no greater happiness for the family. He shared that Ayush has been playing cricket since he was about seven years old. The family’s belief in his potential was evident from the start, given his interest in sports and physical activity. Ayush first represented the state team in his age group at the age of 11.
His father mentioned that Ayush plays as an opener and has participated in several major tournaments, including the Ranji Trophy and Duleep Trophy. He also noted that the Chhattisgarh Cricket Association is doing commendable work in promoting talented players, benefiting the state’s young cricketers.
The 22-year-old left-handed batsman has scored 1,430 runs in 34 innings across 19 first-class matches, including four centuries and five half-centuries, with a highest score of 211. This impressive performance has secured him a spot in the India ‘A’ team.
