Australia Clinches Ashes Series with Team Effort: Steve Smith

Sydney witnessed a remarkable victory as Australia secured the Ashes series 4-1 with a five-wicket win in the Sydney Test. Australian captain Steve Smith credited the triumph to the entire team’s hard work and collective efforts.

Speaking after the match, Smith said, “It feels great to finish the series in such a fantastic way. We understand the importance of every Test match, especially with the World Test Championship final in mind. It was a good Test match and a worthy win.”

Smith emphasized that the success was not due to any individual performance but the combined contributions of all players. “Throughout the series, different players stood up at various times. Alex, Travis, and Starc performed exceptionally well. Other players also stepped up when needed. This is what defines a strong team—trusting each other and rising to the occasion in different situations. Everyone did their part, and we are very proud of that.”

He also highlighted the value of experience in such high-profile series. “This is undoubtedly a big series, and as Australian and English cricketers, it ranks at the top. We have an experienced team that has played excellent cricket over the last four or five years, reaching two World Test Championship finals. We have players eager to improve continuously. It’s a wonderful team.”

Smith further added that playing at home provides an advantage. “No one plays better than at home. We have grown playing on these surfaces and are familiar with them. We know how to play on these wickets, and we did exactly that this time.”

The captain also congratulated Usman Khawaja on his outstanding career and mentioned that his absence will be deeply felt in the dressing room.
