Attack on Electricity Department Team Raises Concerns in Bihar

Patna, March 28: A serious law and order issue has emerged in Bihar’s Gopalganj district. On Friday, a government team investigating electricity theft was allegedly attacked by local residents in the Bakharour village of the Sidhwalia police station area.

According to police reports, the team, led by a junior electrical engineer, was dispatched to the village following repeated complaints of electricity theft. However, as they began their investigation, they faced strong opposition from locals, which quickly escalated from a verbal dispute to a violent clash.

The situation spiraled out of control when an angry mob reportedly assaulted the officials. Several employees, including the junior engineer, were beaten, verbally abused, and even threatened with death.

The sudden attack caused chaos at the scene, resulting in injuries to multiple electricity department staff. The injured were initially given first aid locally and later admitted to the Gopalganj Sadar Hospital for further treatment due to the severity of their injuries.

Following the incident, the victims filed an FIR at the Sidhwalia police station. Senior officials, including SDPO Rajesh Kumar and SHO Somnath Jha, arrived at the site to assess the situation.

SDPO Rajesh Kumar stated that efforts are underway to apprehend those involved in the attack. Based on the junior electrical engineer’s complaint, the police have registered a case and initiated a search operation to identify and arrest the suspects.

Officials confirmed that the team had visited the village based on intelligence regarding electricity theft but faced unexpected violence upon arrival. In the wake of the violent attack, police officials have assured swift and stringent action against the perpetrators.

Currently, all suspects remain at large, but police are confident they will be apprehended soon and brought to justice. This incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of government officials working at the grassroots level, especially during operations targeting electricity theft.
