Assams Minister Highlights Progress in Resolving Border Disputes with Neighboring States

Guwahati, May 13: Atul Bora, a senior cabinet minister of Assam and president of the Assam Gana Parishad (AGP), stated on Wednesday that resolving pending border disputes with neighboring northeastern states is a priority for the NDA government.

In a media interaction, Bora emphasized that the government led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has made significant strides in addressing inter-state border disputes through dialogue and mutual cooperation. Assam has faced border-related tensions for decades, causing difficulties and uncertainty for the residents of affected areas.

Bora remarked, “Since becoming Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma has initiated discussions with the chief ministers of all northeastern states. He has clearly stated that such disputes should be resolved through dialogue and mutual understanding. As a result, Assam has achieved significant progress in resolving border disputes with neighboring states.”

The AGP leader noted that Assam has reached important agreements regarding several disputed areas with Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya. Regular discussions also take place with Mizoram and Nagaland concerning border issues and incidents in sensitive areas.

Bora acknowledged that the dispute with Nagaland remains complex, as part of it is pending in the Supreme Court. However, he expressed confidence that ongoing dialogue between neighboring states will ultimately aid in finding a peaceful resolution.

He stated, “We believe that solutions can be found through discussion and cooperation. Significant progress has been made, and we hope to advance further in the coming years.”

Bora also mentioned that the people of Assam have once again placed their trust in the NDA government, and the ruling coalition will work more responsibly to meet public expectations over the next five years. The government will continue to prioritize development across all sectors, including education, healthcare, agriculture, and infrastructure, while safeguarding Assam’s interests and welfare measures.
