Guwahati, March 18: Assam’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Wednesday that crimes against women in the state have decreased by 86.5% since his government took office. He emphasized that ensuring women’s safety remains a top priority.
In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Sarma stated that his government has implemented continuous measures to prevent crimes against women, with efforts ongoing until such incidents are completely eradicated.
“The safety of mothers and sisters is our highest priority. This is why there has been a significant reduction in crimes against women since our government came to power. However, we will not rest until we ensure that one day, crimes against women reach zero,” he remarked.
Sarma attributed the 86.5% decline in crimes against women to robust law enforcement and targeted interventions. He noted that the state government has focused on improving police systems, strengthening monitoring mechanisms, and ensuring strict enforcement of laws related to women’s safety.
Officials reported that Assam Police have intensified their efforts to tackle crimes against women in recent years. This includes expedited investigations, increased patrolling, and awareness campaigns aimed at encouraging crime reporting.
The government has also launched several initiatives to enhance women’s safety and security, such as strengthening women’s police stations, deploying dedicated personnel, and leveraging technology for better monitoring.
Sarma reiterated that while the drop in crime statistics is encouraging, the government is committed to ensuring complete safety for women across the state. He stressed that creating a safe environment for women is essential for overall social development, and the administration will continue to take stringent action against offenders.
