Assam Rifles Successfully Rescues Abducted Woman in Manipur

Imphal, May 9: The Assam Rifles successfully executed a major relief and rescue operation in the Kamjong district of Manipur, securing the safe release of an abducted woman. This operation took place on Saturday, where the Assam Rifles rescued Olina Ningshen, a member of the Tangkhul community. She had been kidnapped by KNA (B) and Village Volunteers Eastern Zone (VVEZ) from the Namli area.

According to reports, her release occurred in the southern part of Zed Choro village, close to the incident site. The entire process was conducted under the supervision of the Assam Rifles, intelligence agencies, and other security forces. The woman’s husband, the village chief, and representatives from civil society organizations were also brought to the Humine police station near Faikoh to ensure her safe return to her family.

After her release, both the woman and her family were taken to the Assam Rifles unit headquarters in Chassad for formal documentation and medical examination. Here, she received medical assistance along with psychological support. Subsequently, the family, along with the village chief and civil society organization members, returned to their village, Khangpat Khan.

On the morning of May 7, reports of tension and violence emerged near the India-Myanmar border in the Zed Choro and Namli areas. The situation was extremely sensitive, but the Assam Rifles promptly took charge to control the situation.

Security forces deployed several rescue teams in the area. They secured ten houses affected by the violence and relocated villagers to safer locations. During this operation, 15 villagers, including women and children, were rescued and provided humanitarian assistance at the Aloyo Assam Rifles camp. An injured woman also received immediate first aid and medical evacuation services.

To prevent further escalation, the Assam Rifles conducted extensive search and sanitization operations. During this time, they apprehended a 38-year-old armed cadre, Lal Thag John, from the Churachandpur area, along with weapons, magazines, and ammunition. He was later handed over to local police.

Currently, the Assam Rifles continues to carry out investigations in sensitive areas of Kamjong.
